Devils sweep the series 2-0 and will advance to the league final, awaiting the winner of the RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits/Mackenzie Lumberjacks series.

Game Two of that series goes tonight, 8PM in Mackenzie, with the Bandits up 1-0.

 

WIMBLEDON:

Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ontario has advanced to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the third year in a row.

The 27-year-old defeated his American opponent Mackenzie McDonald in four sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2) early this morning at the All England Club

The 13th-seeded Raonic is the last Canadian left in singles play.

He will face the ninth-seeded John Isner of the United States on Wednesday; match time is TBD.

SOCCER:

Highly-decorated soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo is moving on from Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old has signed a deal with Juventus in Italy after nine seasons in Spain, but details are unknown at this time.

He scored four goals for Portugal at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia before being eliminated by Uruguay in the Round of 16.

 

JARED YOUNG:

Days after being named the team’s minor league player of the month for June, Prince George baseball product Jared Young has jumped in the ranks of the Chicago Cubs.

The 22-year-old has been called up by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Class ‘A’ Advanced affiliated of the Cubs, taking over the first base position.

He collected his first RBI in the promotion on a sac fly in the Pelicans’ 8-7 loss on Sunday.

MLB:

The Toronto Blue Jays begin a six-game road trip tonight ahead of the All-Star break.

The 41-48 Jays visit Atlanta Tuesday and Wednesday before playing four games in Boston starting Thursday.

Blue Jays Pitcher J.A. Happ has been named to the All-Star Game for the first time in his 12-year career.

The 35-year-old Happ, the lone Toronto representative on the American League team, is 10-5 with a 4.44 ERA.

The Buffalo Sabres have signed number-one overall pick Rasmus Dahlin to a three-year, entry-level deal.

The 18-year-old Swedish defenceman was the third player taken first overall by the Sabres in their history, joining Gilbert Perreault (1970) and Pierre Turgeon (1987).

Nikita Kucherov is sticking in Tampa Bay for the next near-decade.

The 25-year-old Russian forward has signed an eight-year contract extension worth $76 million ($9.5 million AAV).

Kucherov finished third in NHL last season with 102 points (39G, 63A).

 

NBA:

The Los Angeles Lakers officially signed LeBron James to a four-year contract worth $153.1 million dollars.

The Lakers have missed the playoffs for five consecutive seasons, while James has played in the past eight NBA Finals with the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
