LACROSSE:

The Prince George Posse earned the gold medal at the Provincial Midget ‘B’ lacrosse Championships in Burnaby.

The Posse beat Oceanside 5-3 in the final to conclude a perfect 6-0 tournament.

Prince George doubled Cowichan Valley 6-3 in the semi-finals.

The Posse went 4-0 in the round robin outscoring host Burnaby 5-1, Ridge Meadows 11-4, Penticton 8-7 and Oceanside 7-2.

GOLF:

World #1 Dustin Johnson scored a three-stroke victory at the RBC Canadian Open.

Johnson closed with a six-under-66 to finish at 23-under-265 for his 19th PGA Tour title.

Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ontario was the top Canadian, tying for eighth at 15-under.

Pat Fletcher is the last Canadian to win the tournament in 1954.

 

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  7  Chicago White Sox  4

The (48-56) Blue Jays are 2-1 on a 10-game road trip that continues tonight in Oakland.

The (61-46) A’s are two games behind the Seattle Mariners for the last AL wild card spot.

The (62-43) Mariners host the AL west leading Houston Astros this evening.

The non-waiver MLB trade deadline is Tuesday.

HOCKEY CANADA:

Hockey Canada’s World Junior Showcase is underway and runs until Saturday in Kamloops.

Former Prince George Cougars forward Justin Almeida of the Moose Jaw Warriors withdrew from the tournament because of an injury.

Teams competing are from Canada, the United States, Finland, and Sweden.

 

VOLLEYBALL:

The TRU WolfPack of Kamloops will hold its preseason men’s volleyball training camp in Prince George in late August.
