PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

(WHL)

18-year-old forward Max Kryski has joined the Trail Smoke Eaters after being cut by the Prince George Cougars.

The move leaves the Cougars roster with 23 players; 13 forwards, eight defencemen, and two goaltenders.

Kryski scored eight goals and added two assists in 62 games with P.G. last season. He had no points in four games in limited playing time this season.

The 4-5-0-1 Cougars host the 1-9 Swift Current Broncos Sunday afternoon at 2 on Minor Sports Day.

The Broncos, who have been outscored 48-20, face off tonight in Kamloops.

The Cougars also entertain the 3-4 Tri-City Americans Tuesday and Wednesday.

Prince George is third in the BC Division, four points ahead of the 2-6-0-1 Kamloops Blazers and five in front of the 2-9 Kelowna Rockets.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings have three road games in as many days this weekend.

The 8-4-0-1 Spruce Kings visit the 10-5 Coquitlam Express tonight and Sunday and the 7-5 Langley Rivermen on Saturday.

Prince George is third in the Mainland Division, three points behind Coquitlam and seven back of Chilliwack.

The PG Spruce Kings acquired 17-year-old forward Sean Donaldson from the Trail Smoke Eaters in return for 18-year-old forward Layne Sniher and future considerations.

Donaldson has one goal and three assists in 13 games this season.

He has already committed to UCONN to play NCAA Division I hockey in the 2020-21 season.

Sniher had no points and eight penalty minutes in nine games with Prince George.

 

NHL: (Four Canadian teams in action Thursday)

Winnipeg Jets  4  Vancouver Canucks  1

Canucks finished 3-3 on a six-game road trip. Dustin Byfuglien notched a goal and two assists for the Jets, who scored three unanswered goals in the third.

Bo Horvat tallied for the 4-3 Canucks who host Boston Saturday.

Pittsburgh Penguins  3  Toronto Maple Leafs  0

There are three Friday night games in the NHL: Nashville at Calgary, Minnesota at Dallas, and Florida at Washington.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars are on the road this weekend to play a doubleheader.

The 2-2-2 Major Midget Cougars visit the 4-4 Thompson Blazers Saturday afternoon (12:15) in Kamloops and Sunday morning (11:00) in Salmon Arm.

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Men’s Soccer)

The UNBC Timberwolves are on the verge of clinching a playoff spot for the second straight year in Canada West men’s soccer.

The 5-3-5 Timberwolves wrap up the regular season with a pair of games against the 6-6-1 Fraser Valley Cascades tonight and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Abbotsford.

The UNBC men need just one tie or win to qualify for the post-season.

They can also clinch if Thompson Rivers does not win both of its last two games against Victoria and UBC.

UNBC is third and Fraser Valley fourth in the Pacific Division, where the top four teams make the playoffs.

(Canada West Women’s Soccer)

The UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team concludes its regular season with a pair of home games this weekend at Masich Place Stadium.

The 1-8-3 UNBC women host the 3-8-1 TRU Wolfpack of Kamloops tonight at 6:00 and the 3-7-2 UBC Okanagan Heat Sunday at noon.

The Timberwolves, who have lost their last four, can only make the playoffs if they win their last two, while TRU and UBC-O lose to both UNBC and MacEwan.

The Red Sox won the best-of-seven American League Championship Series 4-1 to advance to the World Series.

David Price earned his first postseason victory in 12 starts by allowing just three hits and no runs in six innings.

Price also had nine strikeouts and no walks.

The best-of-seven National League Championship Series will resume tonight (5:39 PT) in Milwaukee with the LA Dodgers ahead of the Brewers, 3-2.

 

NFL: (Start of Week Seven)

Denver Broncos  45  Arizona Cardinals  10

The Broncos improve to 3-4 while the Cardinals drop to a league-worst 1-6; Arizona is 0-4 at home.

There are a dozen NFL games Sunday including New England at Chicago, Dallas at Washington, and Cincinnati at Kansas City.

 

CFL:

There are just three weekends remaining in the CFL regular season.

The 8-7 B.C. Lions can clinch a playoff spot tonight in Vancouver if they beat the 8-8 Edmonton Eskimos.

The other Friday night game is for first place in the East, with Hamilton at Ottawa; both teams are 8-7.
