The Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars win streak ended at 13 games following a 4-2 loss to the Greater Vancouver Canadians. The two teams split the doubleheader as the (22-3-1) Cougars won the opener 5-1.
–The Cariboo Cougars compete in the annual Mac’s AAA Tournament in Calgary. They open on Boxing Day against the Lethbridge Hurricanes and also have round-robin dates with the Calgary Northstars (Dec. 28); the Battlefords Stars (Dec. 29); and Markham Waxers (Dec. 30). The Cougars next home games are scheduled for
January 10th and 11th against the Vancouver NE Chiefs at Kin 1.
–The Prince George Spruce Kings picked up three points on their three game road trip that completed the 2014 portion of their regular season schedule. The Spruce Kings beat Langley 3-1 and then lost 3-1 in Surrey before dropping a 5-4 decision in double overtime in Coquitlam. The (18-14-0-4) Spruce Kings return to action in the new year when they host the Nanaimo Clippers on January 3rd.
–The Prince George Cougars end their Christmas break when they visit the Victoria Royals Saturday and Sunday. The (17-18) Cougars next home games will take place Jan 6th and 7th against the Tri-City Americans.
-–The Prince George based Northern Cougars female midget hockey team swept a triple-header against the visiting Vancouver Island Hurricanes. The Northern Cougars won 3-1, 6-2 and 4-2. They head to Calgary for the Mac’s tournament over the Christmas holidays.
–Megan Heinicke of Prince George finished in the top third of the field at a women’s Biathlon World Cup race in Pokljuka, Slovenia. The 26-year-old Heinicke ended up 14th out of 57 in the 10 km Pursuit.
