Prince George Spruce Kings  5  Coquitlam Express  2  

Spruce Kings lead the best-of-seven series 3-0.

They will go for a sweep tonight in Coquitlam.

Nicholas Poisson scored twice, including the winner that snapped a 2-2 tie, with 1:03 left in the second period.

His brother, Ben Poisson, assisted on both of those goals.

Prince George outshot the Express 34-32 before 571 fans in Coquitlam.

The Spruce Kings have won 15 of their last 16 games overall.

In the other Mainland Division semi-final, the Langley Rivermen skunked the first place Chilliwack Chiefs 5-0 to take a commanding 3-0 lead with game four tonight in Langley.

Mark Gallant scored four goals to give him seven in the series.

Gallant tallied just 10 goals (and 10 assists) in 56 regular season games with the Rivermen.

WHL: 

The Prince George Cougars have four games remaining to conclude their season.

The Cougars host the Portland Winterhawks Friday and Saturday plus a home and home against the Blazers; March 15th in Kamloops and the 16th at CN Centre.

The (38-19-3-3) Winterhawks are second in the U.S. Division, five points ahead of Spokane.

The 17-39-5-3 Cougars have lost five straight and 22 of their last 23.

Prince George has dropped its last 12 home games.

The Cats are 1-9-1-1 since general manager Mark Lamb took over as interim head coach.

The Cougars are 19th out of 22 teams in the WHL, three points ahead of Regina.

BC MAJOR MIDGET LEAGUE: 

Cariboo Cougars goalie Devin Chapman is the BCMML player of the month after posting a 5-0 record in February, with a 1.20 GAA and a .955 save %.

The Cariboo Cougars will conclude their regular season this weekend on the road.

The Major Midget Cougars visit the 6th place Vancouver North West Hawks Saturday night at 7:30 and Sunday morning at 10:45 in North Vancouver.

The 25-8-5  Cougars are in 3rd place in the 11-team league with two regular season games left, just one point back of both the (25-7-4-2) Vancouver NE Chiefs and the (27-9-1-1) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

Fraser Valley will host 10th place North Island while the NE Chiefs entertain the 5th place Thompson Blazers on Saturday and Sunday.


BC MINOR MIDGET LEAGUE:

The Cariboo Minor Midget Cougars will visit the second place Fraser Valley Minor Midget Thunderbirds in the best of three semi-final Friday, Saturday and if needed Sunday.

The Cariboo 15-year-olds beat the Greater Vancouver Canadians 5-4 and 5-4 to win the best of three quarter-final series 2-0.

There are 10 NHL games tonight with three Canadian teams in action: Montreal at LA, Winnipeg at Tampa and Ottawa at the NY Islanders.

The 27-30-9 Vancouver Canucks host Toronto Wednesday, play at Edmonton Thursday and entertain Vegas on Saturday.

The Canucks have lost four straight to fall eight points out of the final wild-card playoff spot with just 16 games left (11 home and 5 away).

Vancouver is tied with Chicago for 12th in the Western Conference.

CURLING:

Jim Cotter of B.C. is 3-1 and tied with Canada and Nova Scotia for second place in Pool B, behind 4-0 Alberta at the Tim Hortons Brier in Brandon.

B.C. beat New Brunswick 7-6 Monday night after dropping a 10-4 decision to Canada Monday morning.

In the noon (PT) draw today, B.C. will face Alberta.

In Pool A, Northern Ontario is 4-0 followed by Saskatchewan and Wildcard at 3-1.

CANADA WINTER GAMES:

Team BC finished fourth in medals (87) and third in gold (30) at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer. The final medal standings are right here.

Prince George athletes captured five medals, four silver and a bronze.

Kimiko Kamstra took silver in both individual and team judo.

Lochlan Young picked up silver in team judo and bronze in his individual judo event.

Colby Graham won silver in Snowboardcross.

 

VOLLEYBALL:

The Prince George 16U Kodiaks girls volleyball team earned silver at a Super Series tournament in Kelowna.

The Kodiaks finished 5-1 with their only loss in the final to the Fraser Valley Blitz 2-0.

 

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PROVINCIALS:

The Duchess Park AAA boys, D.P. Todd AA boys and Cedars Christian A boys all play their opener Wednesday at the provincial high school basketball championships in Langley.

Duchess meets Caledonia (8:30AM), DP Todd faces Pacific Academy (11:45AM) and Cedars will battle Pemberton (4:30 PM).

Northside Christian of Vanderhoof is also in A boys and will start against King David Wednesday (8:30 AM).

The Duchess Park Condors finished 9th at the provincial girls AA basketball championship in Langley.

After losing their first game in the 16-team tournament, the Condors won their final three, including a 68-38 victory over Lambrick Park of Victoria Saturday in the 9th place game.

Smithers finished with a 1-3 record after losing its last game 69-54 to Little Flower Academy of Vancouver.

College Heights had a 2-2 record at the B.C. junior girls basketball championship in Langley, dropping its final game on Saturday 58-46 to WL Seaton of Vernon..

Duchess Park and Kelly Road went 1-3 while Hazelton lost all four of its games.

NBA:

The Toronto Raptors host the (38-25) Houston Rockets tonight.

The (46-18) Raptors are second in the NBA Eastern Conference, 2 games behind the (48-16) Milwaukee Bucks.

Toronto will host the (38-25) Houston Rockets Tuesday.

 

NFL:

Free-agent quarterback Nick Foles is expected to sign a multiyear contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars next week.

Teams are not allowed to talk deals with free agents until March 11, and no deals can be announced until the start of the new league year on March 13.

The Jaguars will likely release quarterback Blake Bortles to make room for the 30-year-old Foles as their starter.

He spent the last two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and was named MVP in Super Bowl LII.
