CityWest is building a new underground fibre route along Highway 37 to strengthen telecommunications resiliency and reduce the risk of widespread outages across Northern B.C.

Once complete, it is expected to strengthen network resiliency by providing another option for moving traffic when an existing route is disrupted.

CityWest is reporting a full service outage for all internet, telephone, and TV customers.

The project is supported by $1.8 million in funding from the Government of Canada through the Universal Broadband Fund and the Province of British Columbia through the Connecting British Columbia program. Additionally, roughly $724,000 has been provided by the provincial government through the Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT).
