PG SPRUCE KINGS:

The BCHL and Doyle Cup champion Prince George Spruce Kings will be saluted for their best season ever.

The city of Prince George will host a public reception for the national finalist Spruce Kings this afternoon at 4:00 at the PG Conference and Civic Centre.

PG Spruce Kings forward Nick Poisson is the final BCHL Player of the Week for the 2018-19 season.

The 17-year-old Poisson scored in all six games for Prince George at the nationals.


NATIONAL JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP

The host team has won four of the last five national championships.

The Bandits jumped out to a 3-0 lead just 13 1/2 minutes into the game.

They led 4-1 after two before the Spruce Kings rally in the 3rd fell short before a packed crowd of 2,294.

It is the second national title for the community-owned Bandits (first was in 2013).

Patrick Cozzi (power play) early in the second, Nick Poisson, with his 6th goal in as many tournament games, midway thru the third and Nolan Welsh, with 45 seconds left, tallied for the Spruce Kings.
Each team had 29 shots, although P.G. outshot the hosts 14-5.

All of the scoring came in the final 4:01 of the second period.

Ben Brar snapped a 1-1 tie with 2:16 left in the second.

Logan Neaton, the top goalie in the tournament, made 32 saves, including 18 in the third as Oakville outshot Prince George 33-32.

The BCHL and Doyle Cup champions finished 24-5 in the post-season, with four of those losses against Brooks in eight games against them.

The 0-2 Raiders play the 1-1 Guelph Storm today (4:00 PT) in the four-team round robin.

Prince Albert needs a win to avoid elimination.

The Raiders have not lost three consecutive games all season.

The WHL champions have lost 12 straight at the Memorial Cup, dating back to 2015.

BECKER-ST. GEORGE’S:

Former Prince George Cougars assistant coach Jason Becker has been hired as head coach of the midget prep team at St. George’s School in Vancouver.

Becker spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach with the Penticton Vees.

Ex P.G. Cougars GM Todd Harkins is the head of hockey at St. George’s and is also the head coach of the bantam prep team.


NHL
:

A win tonight (5:00 PT) for the St. Louis Blues and they will advance to the Stanley Cup final for the first time in 49 years.

The Blues host the San Jose Sharks with St. Louis leading the Western Conference final 3-2.

The Western champion will play the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup final, which will start on Monday (5:00 PT).

The remainder of the dates are May 29th, June 1st, 3rd and if needed 6th, 9th and 12th with all starting just after 5:00 PM PT.

Canada finished first in Group A with a 6-1 record and meet Switzerland in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Golden State Warriors 119  Portland Trail Blazers  117  (OT)

The Warriors sweep the Western Conference final 4-0 to advance to the NBA final for the fifth consecutive year.

Golden State has won six in a row.

Game four in the NBA Eastern Conference final tips off tonight (5:30 PT) in Toronto.

The Milwaukee Bucks lead the Raptors 2-1.

Toronto is coming off a 118-112 double-overtime victory in game three.

The (19-28) Blue Jays have lost 14 of their last 19 games.

Toronto Blue Jays rookie third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., is the American League player of the week.

The 20-year-old Guerrero batted .333 with four home runs, nine RBIs, three walks and five runs scored over six games.

He is hitting .235 on the season.


PGA:

Brooks Koepka won his fourth Major in two years, capturing the PGA Championship by two shots over Dustin Johnson.

The 29-year-old Koepka joined Tiger Woods as the only back-to-back winners of the PGA Championship since it went to stroke play in 1958.

Top Canadian Adam Hadwin tied for 29th.

 

PG SENIOR LACROSSE:

Prince George Senior Lacrosse resumes Wednesday night at 8:00 at Kin 2, with the Westwood Pub Devils against the RPR Mechanical/JR Construction Bandits.
