Timberwolves collect four Canada West soccer awards

The on-field accomplishments of the UNBC Timberwolves are spanning much further than just the soccer field.

Today, four awards were handed out to members of the women’s and men’s programs.

Rob Goodey has been named a Canada West 2nd Team All-Star for his tremendous season.

Goodey is the first goalkeeper in Timberwolves’ history to be named a conference all-star.

“Rob is a very deserving recipient and an inspiration to young goalkeepers. His time here wasn’t all roses. He had to sit in the shadows of former goalkeepers, all the while he just kept working and giving his best every day,” said UNBC coach Steve Simonson.

Freshman Reid Adams is also a member of the Canada West All-Rookie Team.

The Victoria native started 13 of the 15 games for the TWolves, with his speed being his biggest asset.

He is the first UNBC soccer player to be named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team.

“Reid has been such a great part of this team this season. We are so happy that he chose to come to UNBC, and I know he will be a massive part of our program for a long time,” added Simonson.

Mara McCleary has established herself as one of the best defenders in the Canada West and now has the hardware to back it up.

She was named a Canada West 2nd Team All-Star after the TWolves set a new program record, allowing just 19 goals; down from 31 in 2018-2019.

“Mara has been a top performer in our program and in Canada West since she arrived here at UNBC,” said Timberwolves coach Neil Sedgwick.

McCleary burst onto the scene at UNBC in 2016-2017 and has earned the team’s “Best Defensive Player Award” every season.

Additionally, she has started every game of her UNBC career.

UNBC’s women’s soccer team collected the 2019 Canada West Fair Play Award, given to the team that has the least cards throughout the season.

The Timberwolves were given just three yellow cards, and no red cards, throughout the year.
