The game was played on outdoor ice at Ernie Sam Memorial Arena.

The two teams meet again this afternoon at 12:30 indoors at the Fort Forum in Fort St. James.

The (21-7-0-1) NorthWest Hawks are in second place while the (17-8-1-1) Cougars are 5th out of 11 in the BCMML.

B.C. Hockey Female Midget AAA League: (Northern Capitals)

The (10-9-2) Northern Capitals host the (18-1) Greater Vancouver Comets in an outdoor game this morning at 9:00 at the Ernie Sam Memorial Arena in Fort St. James.

Already this weekend, the Comets beat the Northern Capitals 8-2 Friday in Vanderhoof and 5-4 Saturday in Fort St. James in games that were played indoors.

WHL: (PG Cougars)

Prince George Cougars  3  Moose Jaw Warriors  2  (Friday)

In his 43rd game, Craig Armstrong scored his first WHL goal and it turned out to be the winner at 11:32 of the second period.

Cole Moberg (6) scored a goal and set up the winner while Mitch Kohner (6) tallied just 2:14 into the game for Prince George, his first goal since November 23rd.

Tyler Brennan made 28 saves for his fourth victory as P.G. outshot Moose Jaw 34-30 before
2,662 fans.

Prince George picked up six points on their six-game East Division road trip going 2-2-1-1.

The (12-24-3-4) Cougars are eight points behind the (18-21-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds for the final Western Conference wild-card spot.

The Cats are also two points back of the (14-23-4-1) Tri-City Americans.

Prince George has 25 games left while Seattle and Tri-City have 26 remaining.

The Cougars play their next six games at CN Centre starting with a doubleheader against the BC Division-leading Kamloops Blazers on Friday and Saturday.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

Prince George Spruce Kings  4  Langley Rivermen  2  (Friday)

Nicholas Poisson snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of late third period goals, one on the power play and the other into an empty net.

The Spruce Kings ended a seven-game home losing streak before 1,657 fans on Mohawk night at the RMCA.

Prince George is 6-0 this season against Langley.

The Spruce Kings play their next six games on the road beginning Wednesday at noon in Coquitlam against the BCHL-leading Express.

With 14 regular-season games left, the (15-24-2-3) Spruce Kings are last in the Mainland Division, six points behind the (19-21-1-1-1) Langley Rivermen and eight points back of the
(18-20-3-4) Surrey Eagles.

NHL: (12 Saturday games)  Canadian teams went 4-2 with Winnipeg idle

Vancouver Canucks  4  San Jose Sharks  1

The (27-18-4) Canucks extended their home win streak to eight to move into the Pacific Division lead.

Vancouver is just a point ahead of Edmonton, Calgary, Vegas and Arizona.

The Canucks are off until Monday, January 27th when they host the St. Louis Blues.

Canada West Basketball: (UNBC Timberwolves in Kelowna)

(Women’s games)

UNBC Timberwolves    72   UBC Okanagan Heat  70  (Saturday)

Maria Mongomo scored 30 to give her a total of 65 points in the weekend doubleheader sweep.

Maria Mongomo hooped 35 points to become the Timberwolves all-time leading scorer.

(Men’s games)

The UNBC men have lost seven consecutive league games, with six of them in 2020.

Tyrell Laing of Prince George scored a career-high 30 points in a losing effort.

The Timberwolves host the Brandon Bobcats Friday night at 6 (women’s game) and 8 (men’s game) and again on Saturday at 5 and 7 PM.

The UNBC women are 5-9 and in 12th place out of 17 teams.

The (28-14) Raptors are 3rd in the Eastern Conference with their next game Monday (11:30 a.m. PT) in Atlanta against the (10-33) Hawks.

UFC:

Conor McGregor stopped Donald Cerrone with a head kick and punches 40 seconds into the first round at UFC 246 Saturday night in Las Vegas.

It was McGregor’s first victory since 2016 in mixed martial arts.

The Irish former two-division champion improved his record to 22-4 while Cerrone slipped to 36-14.

 

NFL:

The NFL Conference championship games take to the field today.

In the AFC, Tennessee visits Kansas City (12:05 p.m. PT)  while in the NFC it’s Green Bay at San Francisco (3:40 p.m.).

The winners advance to the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 2nd in Miami.
