WHL: (PG Cougars)

Prince George Cougars 6  Seattle Thunderbirds  4

The Cougars scored the first three goals and the last three in a mistake-filled game before 1,809 fans at CN Centre.

Ethan Browne snapped a 4-4 tie on a delayed Seattle penalty with 3:04 left in the third to cap off a three-point game (1 G, 2A).

The same teams meet again tonight as the Cougars conclude a six-game homestand.

They also meet Sunday (Feb 9th and 23rd) in Seattle.

The (15-26-3-4) Cougars are 8 points back of the (20-23-3-2) Thunderbirds for the final wild-card playoff spot.

Both teams have 20 games remaining.

Cariboo Cougars forward Nico Myatovic of Prince George has signed with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Myatovic was selected by the Thunderbirds in the 6th round of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.

BCHL:
(PG Spruce Kings)

The Prince George Spruce Kings, with just eight regular-season games left, host the (24-22-3-1) Wenatchee Wild tonight and the (10-35-1-3) Merritt Centennials on Friday.

The (17-28-2-3) Spruce Kings are last in the Mainland Division, 7 points behind the (21-25-2-1-1) Langley Rivermen.

Prince George has already clinched a playoff spot sitting 15th in the overall standings out of 17.

The top 16 qualify for the post-season.

It appears Merritt will be the odd team out.

The Spruce Kings will move from the Coastal Conference (Mainland Division) to the Interior Conference in the 2020-21 BCHL season.

With the addition of the expansion Cranbrook Bucks, the BCHL Board of Governors has voted to change to a two-conference system with nine teams on each side.

Both the Spruce Kings and Colts will play in the Interior, joining Penticton, Vernon, West Kelowna, Trail, Salmon Arm, Merritt and Wenatchee.

The league has also announced that it is moving from a 58-game regular-season schedule to 54, as well as a later start date in September.

 

NHL: (13 Tuesday games)

Boston Bruins  4  Vancouver Canucks  0

Tuukka Rask made 25 saves for the shutout.

The Bruins improved to 18-2-9 at home and 32-10-12 overall, just a point behind Washington for first in the overall; standings.

The (30-19-5) Canucks conclude a five-game road trip that Thursday in Minnesota (5:00 p.m. PT).

Vancouver leads the Pacific Division by three points over Edmonton, four over Vegas and Arizona and five over Calgary.

There are just two NHL games tonight: Toronto at NY Rangers and Boston at Chicago.

BCMML: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars play their final eight regular-season games at Kin 1.

The Major Midget Cougars host the (7-26-0-1) Greater Vancouver Canadians Saturday night at 4:30 and Sunday morning at 10:30.

The (20-10-1-1) Cougars are in 5th place in the 11-team league while the Canadians are at the bottom.

Canada West Basketball: (UNBC Timberwolves)

Guard Madison Landry of the UNBC Timberwolves is the women’s Canada West First Star of the Week.
Landy, a Duchess Park grad, played an instrumental role in helping the 9-9 Timberwolves improve their win streak to six games and clinch a playoff spot.
In a pair of wins (73-67 and  76-71) over Regina, Landry hooped a total of 45 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists.
She played the entire game Friday as UNBC had only six players healthy enough to take to the court.

On the weekend, she passed the 1,100-point barrier, moving her into third in TWolves history.

Landry also broke the UNBC career assist record in the process.

The UNBC Timberwolves will conclude their regular-season in Canada West basketball this weekend with home games against the MacEwan Griffins.

The women play Friday at noon and Saturday at 5:00 p.m. while the men tip-off Friday night at 6:00 and Saturday evening at 7:00.

The 9-9 UNBC women have won six straight and have clinched a playoff spot sitting in 8th place out of 17 teams.

The 4-14 UNBC men have lost 11 in a row and are in 13th place.

The top 12 teams advance to the playoffs.

MacEwan is 2-16 in both the women’s and men’s divisions.

NBA:

The (36-14) Toronto Raptors put a club-record tying 11-game win streak on the line when they host the (31-18) Indiana Pacers tonight (4:30 PT).

The two teams also meet Friday night (5:00 PT) in Indiana.

The Raptors are 2nd and the Pacers 5th in the Eastern Conference.

MLB:

In a salary dump, the Boston Red Sox have agreed to trade 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts and left-hander David Price to the LA Dodgers.

The Dodgers are sending outfielder Alex Verdugo back to the Red Sox.

The deal also involves the Minnesota Twins.

 

Cycling:

Prince George cyclist Callie Swan is turning pro.

The 21-year-old Swan has signed a contract with a Montreal-based team.

 

PG Iceman:

The 33rd Prince George Iceman will be held on Sunday.

The course for the multi-sport event consists of a 10km and 5 km Run, 8km cross country ski, 5 km skate and an 800 m swim for Individuals and Teams.

The Chiefs Super Bowl parade will take place today in Kansas City.

The odds for winning Super Bowl 55 on February 7th, 2021 in Tampa Bay are out.

Kansas City is listed 5/1 followed by Baltimore and San Francisco at 8/1 & New Orleans at 10/1.
