Man facing charges in relation to mail theft incident

27-year-old Jordan Lalonde is facing charges of Property Theft under $5,000 and Failure to Comply with Probation after an incident last week.

Prince George RCMP were investigating another matter last Tuesday at about 2:00 am when they came across an individual on Central Street West.

Officers observed a man standing in the middle of the road and stopped to speak with them.

They then recognized the man as Lalonde from previous run-ins and detained him in relation to their current investigation.

For the officer’s safety, he was then asked to show them what was in his pockets.

Police discovered the suspect had several pieces of mail and one piece of identification on him that were not in his name, states Cst. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP, the mail belongs to several different people who reside in an apartment building on Union Street that recently reported a mail theft. The identification belongs to a Prince George resident who reported their wallet stolen in April.

Lalonde was brought to the Prince George Detachment where he stayed until he could attend court in the morning.

His charges were approved by the BC Prosecution Service and he is now back in the community on a release order until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for next month.

This is the second mail theft incident reported this month, on March 11th another man was arrested following a similar incident on Gillett Street.
