As the weather warms, multiple roads and sidewalks across Prince George will be resurfaced and repaired in the coming weeks.
43 kilometres of road and 1.3 kilometres of sidewalk will be rehabilitated, according to a city report today (Thursday).
“For comparison, paving one lane of road along the most direct route from College Heights Secondary to Shas Ti Kelly Road Secondary would take about 18 lane kilometres,” said spokesperson Mike Kellett in a release.
In total, there will be 38 road-resurfacing projects, and five sidewalk projects this paving season.
A stretch of Northwood Pulpmill Road, about 4 kilometres long, will be the largest project.
The largest sidewalk operation will be about 365 metres along 20th Avenue from Queensway to Maple Street.
Other notable operations include:
- A section of Foothills Boulevard just north of the intersection with North Nechako Rd
- Upper Patricia Boulevard from Queensway to Taylor Drive
- Ospika Boulevard from Davis to Range Road
- Sidewalk along Highland Drive from Vellencher to Austin Road
About $5.8 million has been budgeted for road rehabilitation this year, the city says, and $700,000 for sidewalks.
Major paving operations are expected to begin in May.
Preparatory work for road line painting will be starting up as well, and all line painting operations are expected to be completed by the end of June.
