Chad van Diemen has been crowned going from an assistant King in Powell River to Head King in Prince George. The Spruce Kings named van Diemen their 23rd head coach in team history during a media conference at the PG Coliseum just prior to the club’s Prospects Camp. The 33-year-old Van Diemen has no head coaching experience but worked under Kent Lewis the last six seasons as an Associate Coach and Assistant GM. He replaces Dave Dupas who stepped down after 4 1/2 seasons.

–The Nanaimo Clippers won the opening game in the BCHL Fred Page Cup final, 5-2 over the Penticton Vees.

–The BCHL has announced its all-star teams for the 2014-15 season. No Prince George Spruce Kings were named to either the First Team, Second Team or Rookie Team. The all-stars were chosen after a survey of the BCHL’s play-by-play broadcasters.

–On opening night of the second round of the WHL playoffs; Kelowna blanked Victoria 5-0, Everett outscored Portland 5-3, Calgary beat Medicine Hat 3-1 and Brandon knocked off Regina 5-1.

–The Prince George Judo Club hosts a regional tournament today (Saturday) at the Northern Sport Center.

–The PG Track and Field Club begins its season today at Masich Place Stadium with final registration going from
11am to 1pm.
