NHL:
Update at 2:00 p.m.
Prince George Cougars defenseman Ethan Samson was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL draft. Samson went in round six, 174th overall.
Earlier:
The Vancouver Canucks made a blockbuster trade with the Arizona Coyotes just prior to the NHL draft. The Canucks acquired defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and right-winger Conor Garland from the Coyotes in return for the No. 9 selection in this year’s draft, the Canucks’ second-round pick in 2022 and its seventh-round pick in 2023 plus forwards Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson and Antoine Roussel.
The Canucks got better by adding Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland without subtracting from their roster.
But they also took on some considerable risk. (@imacSportsnet)https://t.co/JAl1PJwwtB

Three of the top five picks in the NHL draft came from the Michigan Wolverines. The Buffalo Sabres selected Wolverines defenseman Owen Power with the top pick, and were followed by the expansion Seattle Kraken choosing Michigan centre Matthew Beniers at No. 2. It marked the first time in 52 years that teammates went one-two overall. The Wolverines became college hockey’s first program to have three teammates go in the first round after the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Michigan winger Kent Johnson fifth.

Shocked that MTL took Logan Mailloux 31st overall even tho he asked all NHL teams to not to take him because of a sex-related criminal charge/judgment for taking/distributing a photo of a woman w/o permission, as 1st reported by @frank_seravalli last week: https://t.co/iYWZqiH2YY
