Much of Prince George Fire Centre under ‘High’ Danger Rating

Above seasonal temperatures are continuing to drag into the fall months.

It’s not just high temperatures in the Prince George Fire Centre, as dry conditions have persisted as well.

These weather factors have combined to drive up the Fire Danger Rating in the area.

“Much of the Fire Centre is in a high to extreme fire danger rating,” said Fire Information Officer Sharon Nickel.

“The fire danger rating right now, it actually more closely resembles the fire danger rating we had over the August long weekend last year.”

According to Nickel, there have been fewer fires so far this year in the Prince George Fire Centre (235), as compared to last year (272).

Additionally the number of hectares that burned this year (48,706 ha) was less than half of what it was last year (128,306 ha).

Nickel added that there is still a category 2 and 3 fire prohibition in the Prince George Fire Centre.
