February’s unemployment rate in Prince George fell to 6.7% after it was 6.8 the month prior.
According to the Labour Division Survey from Stats Canada, 53-thousand people were working in the northern capital and just 38-hundred residents looking for employment.
Analyst, Vincent Ferrao told MyPGNow.com the employment picture in PG is a lot healthier than it was 12 months earlier.
“I think the important thing is that compared to a year ago, we had 49,800 people working. So, we’ve had a bit of an increase over the past 12 months.”
Ferrao added the Cariboo economic region, which includes Prince George saw a few sectors enjoy some gains in employment.
“February, compared to February of last year – more people were working in educational services – that was where most of the increase was but there were also some smaller gains in health care, social assistance, and in construction.”
BC’s jobless mark remains the fourth-lowest among the provinces at 5.2% – a slight dip from January’s 5.4 mark.
In Canada, the unemployment rate rose to 5.8% in February after it was 5.7 – this despite adding 41-thousand jobs to the economy.
