WHL:

Tickets have been moving quickly for the first two games of the Prince George Cougars-Spokane Chiefs series at CN Centre.

As of this morning (Wednesday), roughly 1,200 tickets are left for the Friday opener and about 1,700 remain for the Saturday game.

The Cougars hosted a Playoff Kickoff Barbecue late Tuesday afternoon which attracted over 600 fans.

The event featured a meet and greet with the players, road hockey games, fan-boni rides and free food (highlighted by hot dogs).

Three Prince George Cougars, Riley Heidt, Zac Funk, and Hudson Thornton have been selected to the WHL BC Division’s first All-Star team.

Three other Cougars were named second-team All-Stars: Terik Parascak, Viliam Kmec, and Josh Ravensbergen.

In the 2-3-2 format, Games 3 and 4 will go in Spokane on April 2nd and 3rd with the if needed games set for April 5th in Spokane, April 8th in Prince George and Wednesday, April 10th in P.G.

The Cougars ended their regular season with nine straight wins, a 19-game point streak and first place in the WHL Western Conference with a team record of 49-15-1-3 for 102 points.

NHL: (12 Tuesday games with Vancouver & Ottawa the only Canadian teams idle)

Zach Hyman scored his 51st goal of the season at 1:22 of overtime.

The (45-19-8) Vancouver Canucks, with 10 games left in their regular season, host the (45-19-9) Dallas Stars Thursday night at 7:00.

The Stars, who have won five straight, lead the Central Division with 99 points, one more than the Pacific Division-leading Canucks.

There are just two NHL games tonight (Wednesday): Ottawa at Buffalo and Boston at Tampa Bay.

BCHL:

The BCHL regular season concludes this weekend.

The (15-34-3) Prince George Spruce Kings visit the (32-19-1) Vernon Vipers Friday and the Merritt Centennials Saturday.

P.G. has lost 13 of its last 15 games.

The Spruce Kings face the first-place Penticton Vees in the first round of the playoffs.

The best-of-seven series will open in Penticton on April 5th and 6th before shifting to Prince George for Games 3 and 4 on April 9th and 10th.

The if needed games are set for April 12th in Penticton, April 14th in Prince George and April 16th in Penticton.

The world men’s curling championship begins Saturday in Switzerland.

Brad Gushue will skip the Canadian team.

The (23-49) Toronto Raptors, with just 10 games left in their season, host the (43-28) New York Knicks tonight (Wednesday at 4:30).
