Northern Health is celebrating increased safety for their employees.
Since 2010 when new prevention programs were introduced, the health provider has seen a significant decline in the number of injuries sustained on the job.
“The reduction of injuries increases our ability to have well-trained, qualified staff staying at work providing the care” said Director of Workplace Health and Safety Frank Talarico.
He says because there are less injuries, there are also fewer WorkSafe claims to deal with.
“Over the last five years we’ve managed to have cost-avoidance in excess of 1.1 million dollars” said Talarico.
He adds being able to save those funds instead of paying them out to injured employees means more efficiency at hospitals and more funds for patient care.
