SD57 board shown gender-based pay discrepancy report

School District 57 Trustees were presented a report of its gender pay gap during Tuesday night’s public board meeting.

The report is in accordance with the Pay Transparency Act that became law in May 2023, requiring School Districts with a thousand or more employees to publish a report by November 1st each year.

According to SD57, for every dollar men earn in average hourly wages, women earn 82 cents, or 18 per cent less.

Last year, women within the School District earned 19 per cent less in average hourly wages.

The School District added only 30 per cent of employees identified their gender voluntarily, limiting the ability to report meaningful trends, but will continue encouraging staff to take part.

Other items discussed at the meeting include the 2024-25 Statement of Financial Information report, the budget process and timeline, and SD57 class sizes.
