BC Hydro brings Site C job fair to Prince George

If you’re looking for a job, you might want to head down to the Coast Inn of the North this Monday.

BC Hydro will be there with contractors for the Site C Dam project and they’ll be looking for qualified workers and lots of them.

BC Hydro spokesperson Bob Gammer says the project will employ hundreds.

“The main civil works contractors – the Peace River hydro partners – are looking for roughly 1500 employees when they get to their peak. They’re not quite going to be looking for those numbers immediately but this is the time to collect the resumes and to see what skills are available in the market right now so they can plan and start work.”

Gammer says approximately 600 workers will be needed for this spring.

The Site C Dam will be one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Canada and will require a diverse set of skilled workers.

“We’re looking for people who have skills as heavy equipment operators, carpenters, drillers, blasters, electricians, welders, engineers, work supervisors,” says Gammer. “It’s quite a comprehensive list.”

Don’t think your skills will fit the bill? Gammer says the project needs more than construction workers and engineers.

“This is an 8 year project. We’re going to need a lot of other skills as we move into other phases, as we let other contracts.”

Interest in the project is expected to be high and line-ups are likely to be long so, if you’re planning on heading down, take your resume and pack your patience. The job fair runs from noon until 7pm on Monday at the Coast Inn of the North.
