Fire Centre stays quiet in June

Things have been pretty quiet in the Prince George Fire Centre recently, despite some hot weather.

Fire Information Officer Jillian Kelsh says there is one major fire burning near Vanderhoof.

“We do have a fire that is southwest of Vanderhoof. It’s near the Old Peta Mountain Fire Area. It’s about 28 hectares in size right now, we do have one unit crew on site along with two helicopters that are working to put the fire out at this time.”

Kelsh says the area is expected to get a lot of rain tomorrow so the fire should be out within a day or two.

Kelsh says they don’t usually see too many fires in June, but things may pick up again in July.
