RCMP say three people are in hospital after early morning incidents on Hwy 97

Three people have been transported to hospital after two separate incidents on Highway 97 early Tuesday morning.

Quesnel RCMP were called to a report of a collision near the town of Cinema, south of Prince George and Hixon.

Sergeant Chris Riddle says it was the road conditions that caused the initial mess.

“Upon police arrival, it was determined the original collision was caused when a northbound sedan lost control on the icy roadway and struck a southbound pick-up truck.”

While en route to the incident, Mounties also received a tip about two semi-trucks went into a ditch, North of the original accident, due to the icy conditions.

Sergeant Riddle says no charges are being sought out and the three people involved have been sent to G.R. Baker Hospital in Quesnel.

“I just believe they were taken with non-life threatening injuries just due to the original collision.”

He adds traffic control personnel are remaining on-scene to direct vehicles as both semi-trucks are being attended to.

Environment Canada has more rain in the forecast for both today and tomorrow.

Drivers planning to take the highway are encouraged to check Drive-BC for road conditions before departing.
