Poisson plays double OT hero in Spruce Kings’ win over Nanaimo

The Prince George Spruce Kings improved their home record to 8-1-1-1 Friday night after edging the Nanaimo Clippers 3-2 in double overtime.

Forward Ben Poisson lit the game-winning lamp just 12 seconds into the fifth period of play to cap off a two-goal night.

Nanaimo did strike first under two minutes into the opening period before Poisson tied it up with his 10th of the season; the OT goal would count as his 11th.

The Clippers regained their one-goal advantage three minutes into the middle frame and the Spruce Kings would even the score once more, courtesy of recently acquired Blake Hayward.

There was no scoring in the third or first overtime periods.

Prince George goaltender Evan DeBrouwer made 24 saves on 26 shots in the match against his former team, good enough for his ninth win between the pipes this year.

Spruce Kings look to break the second place tie with Surrey in the Mainland Division (29 points each), facing the West Kelowna Warriors Saturday, 7PM at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).
