Earlier this week we learned the controversial Site C Dam will be built.
Premier John Horgan made the announcement Monday, sending more than 2,000 people back to work on the $10.7 billion project.
BC Liberals are happy the project will move forward, but peace river MLA Mike Bernier says the NDP’s decision to halt the project was a waste of time and money.
“It’s unfortunate that we had to wait six months for an obvious decision one that we’ve known all along was the right one for our provinces future. So for myself I think it’s time to move forward now and finish this project. We need to hold the NDP accountable.”
Bernier added the liberals did a 10 year review to determine if they should proceed to build the dam and it’s funny the NDP took 6 months to come up with the same conclusion as they did.
Liberal MLA Tracy Redies also agreed with Bernier,but says there are still a number of concerns.
“The uncertainty this whole process has created, not just for Site C frankly but for other projects going forward in British Columbia. Because the govern,net has really interfered in this particular project by preventing BC Hydro from taking other contracts.”
Highway 29 realignment and the generating and spill way contract are some of the concerns highlighted by Redies.
She says these other projects could taper on to the cost of the billion dollar project.
