Cariboo Cougars fall four points behind Valley West

The Cariboo Cougars earned just one out of a possible four points against the first place Valley West Hawks in their doubleheader at the BC Major Midget League (BCMML) Showcase in Kelowna.

Valley West took the opener 4-3 and that was followed by a 2-2 tie.

On Saturday, the Hawks built up a 4-1 lead after two periods and then held on for the victory.

Marcus Allen made 43 saves as Valley West outshot Cariboo 47-25.

Scoring for Cougars were Brandon Dent, Brett Fudger and Jacob Gendron.

On Sunday, the Cougars got third period goals from Grady Thomson and Craig MacDonald to erase a 2-0 deficit.

Allen was superb in net with 48 saves as the Hawks outshot the Cats 50-35.

Valley West won the season series 3-0-1.

The Hawks took the first two meetings, 5-2 and 5-3 September 23rd and 24th at Kin 1.

The 19-5-2 Cougars are in second place, four points behind the 21-3-2 Hawks and just two points ahead of the 18-6-1-1 Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

Cariboo will play its next two home games in Fort St James, Saturday at 5PM and Sunday at 10AM against the 10-11-1-3 Vancouver NE Chiefs, who are in seventh place in the 11-team league.
