City looks to host FCM meeting

The City of Prince George will be submitting an application to host a future Board of Directors meeting for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

The application is to host the March or September 2020 meetings, or the March or September 2021 meetings. The city would prefer either September date ahead of the March dates.

The FCM represents about 90% of Canada’s municipal population, advocating the needs of who they represent into federal policies and programs. Councillor Garth Frizzell currently sits as FCM Second Vice-President.

About 100 delegates and 80 guests from across the country would be expected to attend the event. The estimated local economic impact is $450,000.

On top of this, council unanimously approved a contribution of up to $20,000 from the Major Events Reserve if the City of PG is successful in its bid.

The FCM Board will decide on the mentioned dates’ host(s) on September 14th, 2018.
