WESTERN CANADIAN BASEBALL:

The BC-champion PG Surg Med Knights compete at the Western Canadian U-18 Double-A baseball championship in La Broquerie, Manitoba.

The Knights start the five-team round-robin today against Alberta (Beaumont Red Sox). They also meet Manitoba (Portage Pirates) and Saskatchewan (Lloydminster Pirates) Saturday and the host team (Carillion Saints) on Sunday.

The top two teams will advance to the final on Sunday.

UPDATE AT NOON: PG BEAT ALBERTA TODAY 6-5 AS THE KNIGHTS SCORED 4 RUNS IN THE FINAL INNING TO ERASE A 5-2 DEFICIT.

The Prince George Grays are at the Western Canadian Senior Double-A baseball championship in Moose Jaw.

The Grays play two round robin games today (against Saskatoon Outlaws and Moose Jaw Padres) and Saturday (St. James A’s of Manitoba and Border All-Stars) in the five-team tournament.

UPDATE AT NOON: SASKATOON BEAT THE PG GRAYS IN THE TOURNAMENT OPENER 14-8.

 

MLB:

Kansas City Royals  6  Toronto Blue Jays  2

The (55-66) Blue Jays who are 2-2 on a seven-game road trip that will continue this weekend at Yankee Stadium.

The Seattle Mariners begin a six-game homestand tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers

The (70-52) Mariners are 2 1/2 games behind Oakland for the final AL wild-card spot.

The A’s have an MLB-best record of 37-13 since June 16.

In the AL West, Houston leads Oakland by 2 games and Seattle by 4 1/2/

Oakland is just two games back of AL West leading Houston.

 

PG SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings will play a pair of BCHL exhibition games against the Merritt Centennials.

The two teams meet Wednesday August 29th in Prince George and on Friday, August 31st in Merritt.

The Spruce Kings open their regular season on Friday, September 7th when they host the Chilliwack Chiefs.

 

PGARA:

The Tri-City Street Stock Invitational will race Saturday at PGARA starting with time trials at 6PM.

The PGARA Street Stock Invitational follows Sunday afternoon beginning with time trials at 1.

 

SIMON FRASER GOLF:

The 36-hole men’s Simon Fraser will tee off Saturday and conclude Sunday at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

86 golfers in the field, including defending champion Tyler Robertson.

The 21-year-old Robertson won last year’s three round Simon Fraser by two strokes over Reagan Brown.

Meanwhile, Natasha Kozlowski won the women’s Simon Fraser with a 3-over-par 147 score (rounds of 74 and 73).

 

PGA TOUR:

Brandt Snedeker fired an 11-under par 59 (Thursday) at the Wyndham Championship, which is one shot shy of matching the PGA Tour record.

Snedeker became the 10th player in tour history to break 60.

Jim Furyk set the record with a 58 in the final round of the Travelers Championship in 2016.


CFL:

Montreal quarterback Johnny Manziel will not play in the Alouettes game Saturday night in Edmonton.

Manziel is out because of what he calls a delayed onset concussion.
