The Northern BC Friends of Children Society is benefitting from a $3,000 donation from the Four Rivers Co-op. As part of the Co-op’s Community Support Fund, this is one of ten organizations to receive funding in 2018.
It is stated in a release the donation will support Friends of Children in their goal to increase affordable senior housing by completing lot infrastructure on the land purchased to construct affordable housing. Friends of Children provides assistance to families during difficult times by funding support for travel, accommodation, and groceries while children attend medical appointments in communities away from home.
The biggest need right now, according to Friends of Children General Manager Kelly Sharp, is with accommodation.
“Right now, your BC Family Residence Program covers accommodation for the first 30 days when your child is at BC Children’s Hospital, after that the family is on the hook for it,” he explained.
“90% of our requests come from social workers at the BC Children’s Hospital.”
2018 marks the third year the Co-op’s Community Support Fund has ran. Recipients receive a total of $100,000 from the program each year.
