Prince George RCMP searching for fraud suspect

Police in Prince George is on the hunt for a male suspect following a reported identity theft and fraud that took place in August.

The RCMP was made aware of the incident on September 19th where it was relayed to them that an unknown suspect had defrauded a bank of thousands of dollars using the identity of a man from Port Coquitlam.

Substantial withdrawals were made in Prince George, Quesnel, and Williams Lake.

Cpl. Craig Douglass told MyPGNow.com a situation like this is alarming.

“It is concerning that anyone can acquire the documentation to create accounts to defraud and in this case, a bank of thousands of dollars is concerning.”

“It does happen from time to time and certainly we treat these seriously. We know these are difficult to investigate but we have the resources in place that we hope to identify this person and bring them to be accountable.”

Investigators believe the suspect travels between communities and has committed similar offenses.

The culprit may also have ties to the Lower Mainland and the Okanagan.

He is described as:

  • Non-white male
  • About 40 to 50 years old
  • five-feet eight inches tall
  • 180 pounds
  • Short dark hair with a mustache and goatee
