Volunteer Week proclaimed in Prince George

This week has been proclaimed Volunteer Week in Prince George.

This morning, Volunteer PG’s flag was raised at City Hall, and is also being flown by Mr. PG.

“It basically gets us out into the community more, raises the profile for us,” said Volunteer Prince George Program Manager Maria Rossi.

“We are hoping that as many people will hear about Volunteer Prince George during this week and beyond and connect with us.”

Volunteer Prince George connects people who wish to volunteer in the community with opportunities to do so.

Rossi noted they match hundreds of volunteers to different opportunities, but there are also people who look at opportunities and then match themselves.

“We have our volunteer opportunities that are listed on our website, and those are our organizations that we partner with,” she explained.

“Those organizations give us the information that they’re needing for volunteers, the different skills, the different types of positions that are available for people, and as people contact us, often times they’ll call us, email us, or we’ll meet them at outreach events, and we filter through with them what exactly what they’re looking for.”

Rossi added they then refer the volunteers to organizations that match what they’re looking for.
