Spruce Kings take second place in division with win over Warriors

Austin Fraser came up big for the Spruce Kings last night, helping muscle them into second place in the Interior Division with a 2-1 win over the rival West Kelowna Warriors.

The Warriors and Spruce Kings came into the weekend tied for second place in the Interior at 26 points each.

A powerplay goal from Austin Fraser 42 seconds into the third period was the difference maker last night, his second of the game after scoring the tying goal with just over a minute left in the second.

This is the Warriors’ fourth straight loss.

The Spruce Kings outshot the Warriors 30-16 in the game, Jordan Fairlie made 15 saves for the win.

Prince George went 1/4 on the powerplay and 4/4 penalty killing.

Prince George’s record improves to 13-6-1-1, West Kelowna falls to 12-6-2-0.

The two teams will rematch tonight at 7:00 at the Kopar Memorial Arena.

A regulation win would put West Kelowna back in second place, having played one fewer game than the Spruce Kings.
