Austin Fraser came up big for the Spruce Kings last night, helping muscle them into second place in the Interior Division with a 2-1 win over the rival West Kelowna Warriors.
The Warriors and Spruce Kings came into the weekend tied for second place in the Interior at 26 points each.
A powerplay goal from Austin Fraser 42 seconds into the third period was the difference maker last night, his second of the game after scoring the tying goal with just over a minute left in the second.
This is the Warriors’ fourth straight loss.
The Spruce Kings outshot the Warriors 30-16 in the game, Jordan Fairlie made 15 saves for the win.
Prince George went 1/4 on the powerplay and 4/4 penalty killing.
Prince George’s record improves to 13-6-1-1, West Kelowna falls to 12-6-2-0.
The two teams will rematch tonight at 7:00 at the Kopar Memorial Arena.
A regulation win would put West Kelowna back in second place, having played one fewer game than the Spruce Kings.
