Cougars woes in the provincial capital reaches double figures

In their last 10 games played in Victoria, the Prince George Cougars have zero wins to show for it (0-7-1-2).

Saturday night before 5,262 fans in the provincial capital, the Cougars blew a 1-0 lead after the first period and lost to the Victoria Royals 5-1.

The defeat ended a season-high three-game win streak for the Cats, who won Friday night in Everett 4-3.

Kaid Oliver tallied twice and Gary Haden chipped in with three assists for the Royals, who scored three goals in the second and two more in the third.

Nikita Krivokrasov scored the Cougars’ only goal, 4:09 into the first period.

Brock Gould turned aside 24 of 25 shots for Victoria while Taylor Gauthier was tagged with the loss, stopping 25 of 30 shots.

The Cougars visit the (18-13-1-2) Kelowna Rockets Monday night in their final game in 2019.

Prince George will start 2020 with home games against the (25-7-2) Everett Silvertips.

The (9-21-1-3) Cougars are 7 points behind the (12-16-4-1) Tri-City Americans and the
(13-18-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds, who share the final Western Conference wild-card spot.

The Cariboo Cougars are 2-1 at the Mac’s AAA Midget Hockey Tournament in Calgary after a 5-1 Saturday night victory over the Calgary Royals.

Cariboo put the game away with four unanswered goals in the first.

The Cougars will play their final round-robin game tonight at 7:00 (PT) against the (2-0) St. Albert Nektar Raiders.

When preliminary games wrap up on Monday, the top team from each of the five pools will qualify for playoffs and so will the three clubs with the next-best records.
