Environment Canada issues special weather statement for Prince George

More snow is headed to Prince George.

According to Environment Canada a strong winter storm will impact the BC interior with snow beginning tonight (Thursday).

Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says that the Prince George region can prepare for “5 to 10 centimetres of snow tonight, with another 2-4 centimetres possible tomorrow morning.”

This means that drivers may want to prepare for snowy roadways, as the City of Prince George declares a snow event once more than 12 centimetres of snowfall occurs within a 24 hour period.

During a snow event of 12 centimetres or more, the city allows up to 72 hours for most residential roads to be cleared after high-priority routes are completed.

The band of snow will be moving northbound and will allow for the end of snowfall for communities in the Okanagan, South Thompson, and Kootenays.

The largest amounts of snowfall are expected in the Columbias, the Yellowhead, Williston, and the Bulkley Valley.

There is a chance of freezing rain for the central interior as the band of snow pushes northwards on Friday morning.
