PG RCMP catch driver going twice the speed limit on Highway 97

A 24-year-old Prince George man is $483 lighter in the wallet after he was seen driving at 152 kilometres an hour, which was more than twice the legal limit.

The incident occurred just after 9:00 AM on Thursday (February 20th) when a member of the RCMP was conducting speed enforcement on a 70 kilometre stretch of the Hart Highway (Highway 97).

The pickup truck the driver had was impounded for seven days.

The outside temperature at the time of the violation was minus one.

“This incident is a clear disregard for the safety of all road users, including himself,” said Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.  “Any number of things could have easily caused a serious collision that almost certainly would have caused at least one death.  There is no excuse for his actions.”

Further penalties may be imposed by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles and/or the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.
