In a nutshell:

NHL:

–The Vancouver Canucks scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat the defending champion St. Louis Blues 5-2. Captain Bo Horvat tallied twice, Troy Stecher notched the winner and Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves to help the Canucks stretch their win streak to four games. The same teams play again in game two of the series Friday (3:30 PM PT) in Edmonton.

–Carter Hart made 27 saves to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens in the opener of their Conference quarterfinal.

–In other Stanley Cup playoff action from Wednesday: Colorado skunked Arizona 3-0, NY Islanders doubled Washington 4-2 and Patrice Bergeron scored at 1:12 of double overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 4-3 triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes.

–NHL games today (Thursday): Calgary vs. Dallas (7:30 PM PT), Carolina against Boston (5:00), Chicago vs. Vegas (2:30) and Columbus against Tampa Bay (Noon). The Flames, Bruins, Golden Knights and Lightning all lead 1-0.

NBA:

–Stanley Johnson scored the tiebreaking basket with 4.9 seconds remaining to give the Toronto Raptors a 125-121 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Raptors, 6-1 in the restart and 52-19 overall, play the Denver Nuggets Friday (10:30 AM PT) in their final regular-season game. #2 Toronto will face #7 Brooklyn in the first round of the playoffs.


MLB:

–The Toronto Blue Jays banged out seven homers but lost to the Miami Marlins 14-11 in 10 innings. The 6-and-9 Blue Jays host the Tampa Bay Rays in their next game on Friday (3:35 PM PT).
