Prince George Legion receives nearly $12,000 from Federal Government

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 in PG has received $11,991.22 from the federal government as part of the government’s $7.2 million allocated for Legions across Canada.

“Given the changes in our operations because of the pandemic, we’ve had to take some hits in our operating budget,” explained Legion 43 Chairman Sheldon Clare.

Clare explained the funding will be used to help pay the lease, cover equipment maintenance and ensure the legion will be able to provide service to the community and veterans within PG.

Nearly half of The Royal Canadian Legion’s 1380 Branches received support from a federal aid package announced on December 21st.

The Legion has had to cancel a number of social events throughout 2020, such as the Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Clare says the cancellation of some of these events has had an impact on the work they’ve been able to do.

“The Legion is a critical element in the community and most communities across Canada,” Clare added, “and we’re very grateful to the government for providing us with this funding and allowing us to continue to operate.”

Clare added chair members of the Legion have high hopes for the new year.

“Just like every other business in the country, we’re really excited to get back to work and get our economy going again,” he noted.
