MLB:

Tampa Bay Rays  2  Toronto Blue Jays  0

Just the second loss in the last 14 games for the Blue Jays. Toronto, New York Yankees, and Boston are all tied for the two American League Wild Card spots. The (81-64) Blue Jays have 17 games remaining, 7 on the road and 10 at home. The Jays have seven left against Minnesota, four against Tampa, three against the Yankees, and three against Baltimore. They host the Rays again this afternoon in the rubber match of their 3-game series.

Triple-A Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George is batting .258 since getting called up to AAA with the Iowa Cubs. The 26-year-old first baseman has four homers and 15 RBI’s in 28 games.

PG Cougars:

The Prince George Cougars start this pre-season schedule this week. The Cougars play the Blazers in a home and home: Friday in Kamloops and Saturday in PG. Those planning to attend at CN Centre will have to provide proof of vaccination status. The Cougars regular season starts on October 2nd when they host the Blazers.

 

Canada West Soccer:

The UNBC Timberwolves have their Canada West soccer home openers this weekend against the Trinity Western Spartans. Game times on Friday and Saturday are 5:00 PM for the women followed by the men at 7:15 at Masich Place. The UNBC men have a loss and a tie after two games while the UNBC women have a pair of losses. Trinity Western is 2-0 in the women’s standings and has two ties after two games in the men’s division.

 

Column:

 

NFL: 

Week two of the NFL season begins Thursday night with the New York Giants at the Washington Football Team. Both NFC East teams are 0-1. Washington will be without starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick for the next six to eight weeks with a hip injury he suffered on Sunday.

CFL:

Week seven of the CFL season starts on Friday with Calgary at Hamilton (4:00 PM PT) followed by Toronto at Saskatchewan (6:45). The Saturday games have B.C. at Montreal (4:00 PM) and Winnipeg at Edmonton (6:45).

Standings:

West: Winnipeg 5-1, Saskatchewan and B.C. 3-2, Edmonton 2-3, and Calgary 2-4
East:  Toronto 3-2, Montreal 2-2, Hamilton 2-3, and Ottawa 1-4.
