Spruce Kings fall to Rivermen in double overtime

Another valiant effort by the Prince George Spruce Kings came up a little short as they fell to the Langley Rivermen 5-4 in double overtime Thursday.

Prince George got off to a slow start in the first period after Max Kaufman and Angus Cruikshank opened the scoring for Langley.

Cavin Tilsley cut the deficit in half for the Spruce Kings bouncing a wide shot off the far corner fooling Langley goalie Bo Didur.

Langley would re-store the two goal lead a short time later off the stick of 16 year old defender Alec Capstick.

Liam McCloskey would be pulled in favour of Joseph McLeod at that point.

Shortly after, Nik Ponak bounced another puck past Didur from the exact same corner to make it 3-2 after 20 minutes.

Prince George evened the score early in the second after a wrap-around goal by Connor Logan.

Jason O’Neill put the visitors back on top after a defensive turnover inside the blueline for a 4-3 lead.

Before the end of 40 minutes the Spruce Kings would take advantage of another bounce, this time it was off the stick of Jarod Hovde, courtesy of a Stephen Penner point shot.

The Spruce Kings outshot Langley in the third 14-3 and 6-2 after the first over time.

Former Moose Jaw Warrior Torrin White would win the game for the Rivermen at 3:41 of the second overtime on a breakaway after a sloppy line change at the Spruce Kings bench.

The spruce Kings out shot The Rivermen 42-32.

Both teams play again Friday night at 7 at the Coliseum.
