PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

Prince George Cougars      4    Lethbridge Hurricanes    2    (Saturday)

Max Kryski snapped a 2-2 tie midway through the third period and Josh Curtis added the insurance goal just 16 seconds later as the Cougars ended a three game losing streak before 2,704 fans at the CN Centre.

No player in the game picked up more than one point.

Jared Bethune and Austin Crossley also tallied for the Cougars, who earned a split of the doubleheader.

Tavin Grant made 28 saves as PG outshot Lethbridge 32-30.

The 18-23-4-3 Cougars are tied with Kamloops for last in the Western Conference, eight points behind the Spokane Chiefs, who hold down the final wild-card spot.

The Cougars begin a six game Prairie road trip Friday in Prince Albert.

The Hurricanes hit the jackpot with four goals in the second period, the first three of which came in the first five minutes.

On a night the Mega 50/50 Jackpot reached $94,647, Lethbridge captain Jordy Bellerive tallied a hat trick while former Cougar Brad Morrison added a Gordie Howe hat trick (highlight reel goal, an assist and a fight).

Josh Curtis scored both goals for the Cougars before a season-high crowd of 5,138 at the CN Centre.

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings, coming off Friday’s 2-1 win over Vernon, host the 23-13-4-4 Powell River Kings today at 3PM.

The 22-14-4-4 Spruce Kings are tied with Surrey and Langley for top spot in the Mainland Division, although PG has a game in hand on both teams.

Powell River is tied with Victoria for first in the Island Division.

NFL:

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has a stitched-up right hand that was cut during a handoff in Wednesday’s practice.

The injury did not cause any ligament damage, bone breaks or dislocated fingers.

Brady will start in the AFC championship game this afternoon (12:05PM) when the Patriots host the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The NFC championship game today (3:40PM) has the Minnesota Vikings at the Philadelphia Eagles.
