UNBC brings in familiar face to help lead Athletics and Recreation department

The UNBC Timberwolves have hired a former men’s basketball player Marcus MacKay as its new Coordinator, Athletics & Recreation.

“I’m really excited to start this new opportunity with UNBC. Both of my parents were gym teachers and athletic directors at points in their lives so I’ve spent quality time around athletics programs my entire life,” said MacKay. “Being a part of a university athletics program on an administrative level is something I’m super proud of and so are my parents. I can’t wait to start.”

The Terrace product joined UNBC Basketball in 2013 and played until his graduation in 2018.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Human Resources.

“My experience as a TWolf is why I desperately wanted this position, I loved being a student-athlete and I love being around other student-athletes. We have such a tight-knit culture at UNBC which makes it easy to want to stay involved with our program. I want to treat our athletes how I was treated, and I’m going to work as hard as possible to deliver on that.”

MacKay sits top-five in TWolves’ Canada West history in points, assists, steals, and first in three-pointers.

In his new position, he will handle coordinator duties of Timberwolves gameday operations, as well as on-campus recreations, such as intramurals. The Timberwolves resume Canada West conference play in September.
