Crimestoppers offering shredding to prevent identity theft

Crime Stoppers in Prince George is hosting a public “shredding” event tomorrow. The fundraiser will allow residents to shred important documents they may have laying around the house, so that their personal information can’t be stolen if they were to simply throw the documents in the garbage. President Jack Hooper says it’s a unique way to raise money for their organization.

“We need to control identity theft, I think we all have papers and stuff lying around the house, or ends up in the garbage with our personal information on it, one of the ways to stop that is to shred the papers that we don’t need any more.”

Hooper says the event will run from 9 am to noon in the Walmart parking lot. They hope to raise a thousand dollars, but any donations will be happily accepted.
