OLYMPICS:

Sarah Beaudry will replace Prince George teammate Megan Tandy Thursday in the women’s Biathlon 15km individual race at the PyeongChang, South Korea 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The race was scheduled for today, however, it got postponed for 24 hours.

The 29-year-old Tandy, who has not been feeling well, finished 57th out of 87 in Saturday’s Sprint.

Meryeta O’Dine of PG is entered in the women’s snowboard cross Thursday night (PT).

Jamie Macdonald of Fort. St. James will participate in the women’s short-track speedskating relay on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Macdonald crashed in women’s 500 meters preliminary race.

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings are 4-0 on a five-game home-stand which concludes tonight against the (31-16-4-1) Trail Smoke Eaters.

It’s the final home game of the regular season for the (29-15-4-4) Spruce Kings who are closing in on winning their division for the first time in the BCHL.

They are 10 points ahead of Chilliwack, Langley and Surrey with just six games left.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars play their next four on the road starting Saturday in Kamloops.

The Cats also visit Kelowna on Tuesday, Spokane on Friday the 23rd and Tri-City Saturday the 24th, before returning home against the Rockets on February 27th & 28th.

The (19-30-4-4) Cougars have dropped four straight and 11 of their last 13.

They have failed to score the first goal in nine straight games and have been shutout five times this season.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars play their final six regular season games on the road starting Saturday night at 6 and Sunday afternoon at 12:30 against the third place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in Abbotsford.

The (25-6-3-0) Cougars are tied for first place with the (25-4-2-1) Valley West Hawks, although the Hawks have two games in hand.

The Ottawa Senators have dealt Dion Phaneuf and Nate Thompson to the LA Kings in return for Marian Gaborik and Nick Shore.

The Senators will retain 25 percent of Phaneuf’s contract.

The (22-28-6) Vancouver Canucks host the (24-23-6) Florida Panthers tonight.

The Canucks also play Thursday in San Jose.


UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Timberwolves tip-off in the Canada West men’s basketball quarter-finals against the 19-1 Alberta Golden Bears.

The best of three series will be played in Edmonton Friday (2PM Pacific) and Saturday (1PM Pacific), with the if necessary game, Sunday (1PM Pacific).

 

NBA:

The (40-16) Raptors lead the Eastern Conference by a game over the (40-18) Boston Celtics.

The Raptors visit the (20-36) Chicago Bulls tonight while the Celtics host the (29-26) LA Clippers.

The (34-22) Cavs are 2-0 since making several trades last week at the deadline.

 

Volleyball:

The Prince George Under-15 Kodiaks won a girls Super Series volleyball tournament in Langley.

The Kodiaks won all six of their matches, capped off with a 25-16, 25-19 victory over a team from the Fraser Valley in the final.

 

Judo:

The Hart Judo Academy and Prince George Judo Club combined to win six gold, five silver and 12 bronze for a total of 23 medals at the Youth Provincials in Abbotsford.
