Scooter friendly wash-rooms requested by citizen

Making civic wash-rooms more handicap accessible was the point behind one presentation to city council last night.

Resident Dorothea Ellis made the case to council that larger stalls are needed so that people using wheelchairs and scooters can use public restrooms.

Ellis says this is something that many people in the city face.

“We would really like to see our councillors and our mayor spend some time in a chair and actually go around and see what life is like,” says Ellis, “because then you kind of get an idea, about what so many of us are facing.”

Ellis hopes that council will do more than putting in the standard 1500 mm by 1500 mm stalls that are required by the BC Building code.

City council asked staff to look into the matter and report back once the new council is sworn in.
