UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The captain of the UNBC Timberwolves, Francesco Bartolillo, has become the team’s all-time leading goal scorer in men’s soccer.

Bartolillo, a fifth-year player from Calgary, tallied twice in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies to give him 13 goals, one more than the previous record-holder and his good friend Tofa Fakunle.

The 1-1-2 Timberwolves still have 11 games left in the Canada West season.

The UNBC men will host the Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday at 6 p.m. and the Calgary Dinos Sunday at noon.

Meanwhile, the 1-1-2 UNBC Lady Timberwolves visit Fraser Valley Friday night at 5:30 and Trinity Western Saturday night at 5, before their next home game on Friday, September 28th against UBC.

A second make-up date has been finalized for the UNBC men’s soccer team and the Victoria Vikes.

The two sides will meet on Thursday, September 27th in Victoria.

The game was originally scheduled in Prince George on the August 24th weekend as part of a doubleheader but was postponed due to heavy smoke.

Their first make-up game ended in a 1-1 tie on September 4th in Prince George.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings hit the road this week and play West Kelowna Thursday afternoon at 1:30 and Penticton Friday at 4 p.m. at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.

The 4-0 Spruce Kings are off to the best start in the league.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars begin their regular season with back-to-back games against the Royals in Victoria on Friday and Saturday.

They will play their next three against the Rockets: Wednesday the 26th in Kelowna, Friday the 28th (home opener) and Saturday the 29th in Prince George.

The Cougars finished 3-1-1 in the pre-season.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars begin their 40-game BCMML regular season with home games this weekend.

The Major Midget Cougars host the Valley West Hawks Saturday (4:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:30AM) at Kin 1.

 

NFL: (Final game in Week Two)

Chicago Bears  24  Seattle Seahawks  17

The Bears sacked Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson six times.

Wilson also threw a pick-six as Prince Amukamara returned an interception 49 yards for a touchdown.

The Bears are 1-1 while the Seahawks slip to 0-2.

The Cleveland Browns have traded troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon to the New England Patriots in return for a fifth-round draft pick.

The Pats could activate Gordon in time for their Sunday night game in Detroit.

The Browns made their decision to move Gordon after he reported to the team’s training facility Saturday with a hamstring issue after being a full participant in practice all week.

The Philadelphia Eagles are getting Carson Wentz back.

The Eagles QB has been medically cleared and he will start Sunday’s home game against Indianapolis.

 

CFL:

Johnny Manziel will start at quarterback for the Alouettes Friday in Winnipeg against the Blue Bombers.

Manziel took first-team reps in practice Monday.

The (83-67) Mariners, with just 12 games left, are 7 games behind Oakland for the second and final AL wild-card spot.

Seattle is 4-1 on a 10-game road trip, which continues tonight in Houston.

Orioles club-record tying 107th loss of the season.

The (68-82) Blue Jays are 3-4 on a nine-game road trip that continues tonight in Baltimore.
